Procrastination and Perfectionism

Did you know ~

PROCRASTINATION is a hallmark trait of PERFECTIONISM.

When we engage is perfectionism, we are actually trying to AVOID DISCOMFORT. We do this in a compulsive way; our brains associate doing a specific behaviour with a decrease in perceived distress. Feeling uncomfortable is uncomfortable.. I get it. But there's more to this story..

If we are PROCRASTINATING on a task, it might mean that we are avoiding one or all of the following outcomes:

-Discomfort of being rejected
-Discomfort around doing things wrong
-Discomfort of being perceived as inadequate

When we start to break this cycle and move towards rather than away from the avoidance, we learn to tolerate the discomfort and we take back a little of our power. This part is hard, and it's important to start somewhere.

Have you checked in with yourself about your relationship with procrastination/perfectionism?
